Intro to Gold

18.png

It looks like you have been sucked into the game... you're at least 100-150 hours invested, what're another 2,000 hours going to hurt? Besides your relationship, job opportunities, and financial hardship? It's all going to be worth it because... THIS IS ROCKET LEAGUE!!! I am glad that you're now an invested part of the community and you want to invest more time progressing through the ranks. Gold is a strange rank, people think they know what they are doing, but... they probably don't fully understand what's going on around them. Let's see if we can get you past those bots that you have been playing with for the past few weeks

Dribbling
Now is the time where you need to start learning how to really utilize dribbling. This will not be easy if you have no prior experience. There are many tutorials out there ranging from beginner to expert, use them. There are some dribbles out there that will take an experienced GC 10+ hours to learn. Don't attempt fancy shots until you have MASTERED the basics of dribbling. This skill will be used for the rest of your RL career, it will take LOTS of time to advance your dribbling skills.

The best tip I can give you is to make sure your car is in the middle of the circle and make small adjustments.

At this rank, you will have more effective dribbles by quickly changing the direction of the ball; cutting into the ball or cutting into it and doing a jump to pop it up.

First Touch

If you have ever played 1v1s then you truly know the significance of winning

a kickoff or 50/50s. Your ability to get an accurate first touch can truly make or break the game. I can't even tell you how many games I have lost by 1

goal because my opponent dominated the kickoffs and got possession

more than me. This can be prevented by learning the basics to kickoffs.

If you can learn how to master a solid kickoff, you will be so much further ahead of your opponents regardless if they are mechanically better than you.

Use the image to the right to help you understand the basics of kickoffs. You can also use these image to help you win 50/50s when playing games.

Basic Fast Aerials

There are so many benefits to getting in to the air faster than your opponent. You have control of how the 50/50 will go. If you are higher than your opponent, 9/10 times, the ball is going to go in the same direction you are traveling. You basically pinch the ball in favor of your flight path.

Most of the time at this rank, you will jump once, lean back and fly to the air. If you can utilize a second jump while you are flying it will help you beat the opponent to the ball.

I recommend going into free play and seeing how fast you can get to the ceiling. Practice without double jumping and then see how much of a difference you have when you double jump and boost at the same time.

Helpful Tips

Be patient, let the opponents panic and whiff the ball, then you can swoop in and score the wide open net.

Train A LOT before going into Competitive. The more you train, the better you will perform. Obvious, RIGHT?

Don't overwhelm yourself trying advanced mechanics. Focus your energy on basic touches and awareness.

No one passes at this rank, don't look for them. Most likely your teammate is going to follow up every touch.

Work on improving accuracy; training packs; don't overcorrect your movements! less movement is typically more accuracte, stop overthinking, don't panic and don't make last second adjustments.
