air dribbling

Step by Step Guide on how to perform air dribbles

How To Air Dribble Correctly

Example Video of a Good Air Dribble

What was done right? - Sequence of Events

The speed I hit the ball, not too hard, not too soft

Matched the speed of the ball

Hit the ball midway up the wall to pop it out

Hit the ball at an appropriate angle towards the net

Came off the wall and angled my car under the ball about 45 degrees to keep pushing it up

Feathered my boost to stay close to the ball

The Air Dribble

Step 1 - Appropriate Speed

During the setup, hit the ball at an appropriate speed.
This will make sure you are not too close or too far from the ball when it rolls up the wall

You want to Match the Speed of the ball. A good example in Below

If you hit it too hard or soft, you can always reassess the play and make adjustments

Mistake

*WRONG* You don't want to hit the ball too soft and be to close to the ball when you're on the wall

Mistake

*WRONG* You don't want to hit the ball too hard and have to chase it up the wall

3-34554_youtube-icon-logo-png-transparent-youtube-png.png

Good

This is how you want to hit the ball for a setup.

If you use the top of your car, you can slow the speed and still put it where you want (edited)

Step 1 Cont. - Drill - Appropriate Speed Test

Use this drill to see if you are hitting the ball at the right time and at the right speed

Mistake

*WRONG* If you land too late, you jump off the wall too late

3-34554_youtube-icon-logo-png-transparent-youtube-png.png

Mistake

*WRONG* If you land too soon, you're either holding your brakes too long or jumping too soon
I prefer not to brake on the wall

3-34554_youtube-icon-logo-png-transparent-youtube-png.png

Good

Notice how I land at the same time as the ball, I am also positioned a little lower than the ball. This will give me a good angle to push the ball up when boosting.

Step 2 - Hit The Ball Upwards At An Appropriate Angle

When approaching the ball on the wall, use the diagram below to help you decide where to hit the ball to give it the perfect projection towards the net

Untitled design (7).png

Good

Not too high or low

3-34554_youtube-icon-logo-png-transparent-youtube-png.png
Flick (6).png

Mistake

*WRONG* If your car makes contact too high on the ball, it will reduce the pop you get on the ball making it harder to air dribble

3-34554_youtube-icon-logo-png-transparent-youtube-png.png

Mistake

*WRONG* If you hit the ball too low, it will pop it straight to the ceiling and you will have a bad position

3-34554_youtube-icon-logo-png-transparent-youtube-png.png

Step 3 - Rotation + Setup

When coming off the wall, you want to make the smallest amount of movements to get under the ball

Practice jumping off the wall, tilting your car with air roll, lean back to position yourself under the ball

Mistake

*WRONG* Air Rolling the wrong way, too much movement
(air roll away from wall)

3-34554_youtube-icon-logo-png-transparent-youtube-png.png

Good

Shortest Air Roll Distance
(air roll towards the wall)

3-34554_youtube-icon-logo-png-transparent-youtube-png.png

Setting up the Shot:
Air Roll Towards the Wall
Lean the Car Back (30-45 Degrees)
Boost to Make LIGHT Contact with the Ball

Use the Good Video Above as a Reference

Step 4 - Air Control

Good

Make MINOR Adjustments in the air to keep yourself positioned under the ball and push the ball towards the net

Feather your boost to maintain close contact with the ball

Additional Tips

Try working on 1 step at a time. After you have mastered the step, implement the next step

Keep it simple, don't try and do crazy stuff as you are learning. Time will allow improved mechanics

I recommend spending time in training packs to learn how to control the ball in the air and freeplay to learn the setups
It will be difficult to set up air dribbles on your own in-game if you don't practice
